Canada Beef

Today's blog post is all about meat! Canada Beef, the umbrella organization of Canadian beef producers, is at the heart of this contribution. We spoke with Albert Eringfeld, Director of Export Market Development, and are pleased to be able to give you insights into the Canadian beef industry.

1. Please tell us more about Canadian beef and what makes it so special

Canadian beef is one of the best in the world and is known for its delicious taste, tenderness and juiciness. Animal health, food safety, classification standards and quality form the basis for marketing Canadian beef. Canadian cattle are raised with care and appreciation using environmentally sustainable methods. Canada is one of the largest beef producers in the world that feed with grains. Farming with barley, corn and wheat — in the last few months of production — contributes to well-marbled, firm beef with fine white fat. This also gives Canadian beef its distinctive flavor, texture, and aroma. Canadian breeders keep the so-called Bos Taurus cattle, which are perfect for cooler climates. They are selected for the best combination of muscle and meat quality characteristics and produce well-marbled and particularly tasty beef. Since Canada is the second-largest country in the world, the cattle also have plenty of fresh, clean water and air combined with extensive pastures and natural grassland.

2. What tasks does Canada Beef fulfill?

Canada Beef is a not-for-profit organization financed by revenue funds that represents over 60,000 cattle breeders from across Canada. In addition to headquarters in Calgary, there are branches in other parts of Canada. But also offices in Mexico, Japan, China and Taiwan. Canada Beef is responsible for implementing national and international market development and sales promotion programs. Our goal is a dynamic, profitable and competitive Canadian beef industry.

3. If you could invite a special guest to dinner, who would it be? And what Canadian-inspired dish would be served?

I'd probably invite my mom, who just passed away, so I could tell her once again how much she means to me. The meal would be delicious, slow-cooked beef stew with mashed potatoes and gravy. As a side dish, I would serve sweet corn and tender green beans with freshly baked rolls and butter. The dish reminds me of the cold winter evenings I spent with my family.

4. What is your favorite way to enjoy Canadian beef?

I prefer Canadian beef in the form of ribeye or striploin steaks grilled on a wood or charcoal grill. I like my beef steaks simply prepared with salt and pepper so that the natural flavor, juiciness and tenderness of the meat is paramount and is not diluted by other flavors.

5. For me, the taste of Canada is...

Natural foods that are grown and processed in a clean and natural environment and to which hardly any additional spices or condiments are added.

6. Apart from food, what makes Canada so special for you?

In addition to delicious food, it is above all nature, such as the pristine surroundings of the Rocky Mountains, that makes Canada so extraordinary. In addition, there is the wide variety of talented artists — including many world-famous actors and musicians. But above all, it is the warm and hospitable people, shaped by different cultural backgrounds, that make Canada such a special place!
